Timecop is a side-scrolling action game developed by Cryo Interactive Entertainment and released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in 1995. Adapted from the 1994 film of the same name, it is set after the movie’s events. Players take on the role of time enforcement officer Max Walker, who hunts down scientist Hans Kleindast—who misuses time travel technology—to fix the damage he has caused to history. The game features 15 levels set in locations like 1920s New York, World War II-era European battlefields, and a futuristic Los Angeles. Most levels are classic platformers, while some include vehicle controls and martial arts combat. Each level has a time limit; failing to complete it costs the player a life. The game uses digitized live-action actor graphics for characters, though lead Max Walker was not portrayed by film star Jean-Claude Van Damme. Though only released on SNES, a Sega CD version was developed, with a short demo included in the May 1995 issue of European magazine *Sega Pro*. Despite being fully developed, publisher JVC ultimately canceled its Sega CD release. In 2007, the Sega CD version’s programmer uploaded the full game online. Reception was mixed upon release: Japanese magazine *Famitsu* gave it 20 out of 40, *GamePro* criticized its over-the-top animation, lack of digitized voice acting, and nearly unplayable design, and Allgame rated it 2.5 out of 5. Still, the game is popular in the Games Done Quick speedrunning community, often featured in "Awful Games Done Quick" segments where players humorously comment on all aspects of it.
