The Legend of Kage (Japanese: Kage no Densetsu) is a 1985 arcade action game developed by Japanese studio Taito, later ported to the NES and other platforms. It follows young Iga ninja Kage on a quest to rescue Princess Kirihime, kidnapped by villains Yuki Saigoro and Kirigakure no Saizou.
Players control Kage, armed with a kodachi short sword and unlimited shuriken. Collecting crystal balls changes Kage’s outfit color and grants upgrades like larger shuriken or faster attacks. The game features multiple levels with unique settings and enemies; players must use agility and combat skills to defeat foes and save the princess.
Known for its fast-paced gameplay and unique ninja theme, The Legend of Kage was a hit in its era. In 2008, Taito released the sequel The Legend of Kage 2 for the Nintendo DS, retaining classic elements while adding new characters and mechanics to expand the experience.
