Millipede - Kyodai Konchuu no Gyakushuu is the Japanese version of Atari's 1982 fixed shooter game Millipede, with the official English title Millipede: Super Arcade Hit! for its US NES release. As the sequel to the 1981 classic Centipede, it delivers richer gameplay and more varied insect enemies. Players take on the role of an archer tasked with eliminating giant centipedes descending from the top of the screen, while dodging and defeating other insect foes. Controlled via a trackball and a single fire button that supports rapid continuous fire when held down, the game first launched in arcades before being ported to platforms including the Atari 2600, Atari 8-bit computers, Atari ST, and Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). The NES version was developed by HAL Laboratory and released in the US in 1988. Key features include diverse enemy types such as earwigs, bees, spiders, inchworms, ladybugs, dragonflies, and mosquitoes, each with unique behavior patterns and attack styles. It also introduces DDT bombs that players can shoot to trigger explosions, wiping out nearby enemies and mushrooms. The core goal is to achieve the highest possible score, requiring players to use flexible strategies and skills to handle rising enemy numbers and speed.
