PowerMonger is a real-time strategy game developed by UK-based Bullfrog Productions. First launched in 1990 for Amiga and Atari ST, it was ported to the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) on March 26, 1993. Built on the Populous engine but set in a wartime setting, players take on the role of a deposed warlord aiming to conquer 195 territories and rule the world. The game world is made of polygons, letting players freely rotate and move the camera. Trade, diplomacy, invention, and scorched-earth invasions play key roles in gameplay. Its advanced AI engine lets non-player characters (NPCs) autonomously perform tasks like fishing, farming, herding, logging, or tool-making. Players must manage resources including food, manpower, and equipment to grow their armies and conquer enemy forces. The graphical interface has three parts: an overview map on the left, a panel with 20 command buttons, and a central detailed map showing a zoomed-in area. Victory is achieved by controlling the population, seizing cities, or eliminating enemy commanders.
