Ardy Lightfoot is a 2D side-scrolling platformer developed by ASCII, first released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in Japan in 1993, then launched in North America and Europe in 1994. The game follows anthropomorphic fox Ardy and his blue companion Pec on a quest to find seven sacred rainbow shards. Legend says whoever collects all shards will have their wish granted. However, the evil King Visconti already holds one shard and sends his subordinates Beecroft, Catry, and others to hunt for the rest. Ardy gets help from friends along the way, including an elder, Nina, and the mysterious adventurer Don Jacoby. With 17 levels set in diverse environments like forests, caves, and cities, players must defeat enemies and powerful bosses. Ardy can use Pec as a weapon to throw at foes, or have Pec transform into a hot air balloon, a rock-breaking tool, and more. If Ardy is hit by an enemy, Pec disappears, and players must find treasure chests to retrieve him. Without Pec, Ardy can attack enemies with a tail bounce and briefly hide behind transparent mirrors. Praised by players for its colorful graphics and varied gameplay.
