Worlds of Ultima: The Savage Empire is a 1990 role-playing game by Origin Systems, built on the Ultima VI engine. Set in the mysterious jungle valley of Eodon, it follows the Avatar, who is teleported there and discovers primitive tribes and prehistoric dinosaurs. Players must unite the tribes to fight the giant Myrmidex ant colony and restore peace to Eodon. Each tribe has unique cultures and quests—from rescuing a chief’s daughter to stopping lava flows and drugging a T-Rex—that earn their trust. Gameplay mirrors Ultima VI with turn-based combat, plus a deep crafting system: skin animals, fire pottery in kilns, or make gunpowder from sulfur, charcoal, and saltpeter. The skill system is revised too, with spells requiring spirit sacrifices. Notably, it was the first CRPG to let players romance tribal princess Aiela or her foster mother Tristia. With its unique setting, rich quests, and innovative mechanics, Worlds of Ultima: The Savage Empire delivers a solid experience and stands as a classic in the Ultima series.
