Joshua and the Battle of Jericho is a Christian-themed puzzle game developed and published by Wisdom Tree in 1992. Based on the Israelites' siege of Jericho in the biblical Book of Joshua, players take on the role of Israelite leader Joshua to lead his people to capture the city. The game uses a top-down perspective. Players must collect five question mark symbols and a set amount of gold, silver, copper, iron and other items in each level; once requirements are met, the exit to the next stage will appear. Joshua can use a trumpet to fire musical notes to attack enemies or destroy obstacles. Enemies include Canaanite groups like the Amorites and Hittites, plus the more powerful foe Balaam. It features 100 main levels and 10 bonus stages, all with time limits. After clearing a level, players answer five multiple-choice questions about the Book of Joshua. Correct answers grant extra lives, and players can continue even if they answer wrong. First released for the NES in 1992, the game was later ported to Game Boy, MS-DOS, Sega Genesis and other platforms. It is considered a sequel to the 1991 title Exodus, which itself was an adaptation of 1989's Crystal Mines. While its graphics and sound are relatively simple, its puzzle mechanics and challenge make it stand out among Christian games. For puzzle game fans, it offers rich level design and long-lasting replay value.
