Sougou Kakutougi: Astral Bout is a Super Famicom fighting game developed by A-Wave and published by King Records on June 26, 1992. Set against Japan’s Fighting Network RINGS MMA promotion, it lets players pick 9 distinct fighters from styles like pro wrestling, boxing, karate, sambo, muay thai, kung fu, judo, kickboxing and lucha libre. It features 3 modes: single-player, 2-player versus, and CPU practice. Each fighter has separate body, arm and leg stamina bars to monitor during fights. Matches use a 10-count rule — you win if your opponent stays down for 10 seconds. As one of the earliest games to blend multiple martial arts styles, it laid the groundwork for later MMA titles.
