Mario & Wario is a puzzle-platform game developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo. It launched exclusively in Japan for the Super Famicom on August 27, 1993, and features full English in-game text despite its Japan-only release. In the game, Wario flies a plane and drops items like buckets and vases on Mario’s head, blocking his vision. Players control the fairy Wanda, using the Super Famicom Mouse to guide Mario around obstacles and traps to reach Luigi, who removes the item from Mario’s head. The game has 100 levels across 10 unique settings, including forests, deserts, and underwater areas, each with distinct enemies and barriers. Players can choose Mario, Princess Peach, or Yoshi, with medium, slow, and fast movement speeds respectively, adding variety and challenge. Mario & Wario is one of the few games requiring the Super Famicom Mouse. Players click and drag to alter the environment—activating or removing platforms, defeating enemies, and more. It was designed by Satoshi Tajiri, with music by Junichi Masuda. Though only released in Japan, its unique gameplay and innovative use of the Super Famicom Mouse left a lasting impression on players.
