Magic Johnson's Fast Break is a side-scrolling basketball game themed around the legendary basketball player Earvin "Magic" Johnson Jr. Originally developed by Arcadia Systems in 1988, it launched on multiple platforms including arcade, Amiga, Amstrad CPC, Commodore 64, MS-DOS, MSX, NES and ZX Spectrum.
In 1990, Tradewest ported the game to the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), with development handled by Software Creations. The NES version supports up to four simultaneous players via accessories like the NES Satellite or NES Four Score.
The game features 2-on-2 basketball matches with five difficulty levels, from Rookie to Professional, each ramping up game speed and defensive intensity. Each game has four 3-minute real-time quarters, with stats like field goal percentage, three-pointers made, rebounds and steals available for players to view. Overtime is played if the score is tied at the end of regulation.
During gameplay, referees monitor matches and call fouls when they occur. Each team is allowed five team fouls per quarter; exceeding this limit awards the opponent two free throws. The game also includes a 24-second shot clock, requiring players to complete offensive plays within the time limit.
Magic Johnson's Fast Break has drawn many basketball game fans with its fast pace and easy-to-learn controls. Players can perform various basketball moves like shooting, passing and dunking, immersing themselves in a realistic basketball game atmosphere.
