The Lion King is a 1994 action-adventure game adapted from Disney’s animated film of the same name. Developed by Westwood Studios and published by Virgin Interactive, it launched on multiple platforms including the Super Nintendo (SNES). Players take on the role of Simba, following his journey from a cub to the adult Lion King, as he ultimately challenges his usurping uncle Scar to reclaim rule of the Pride Lands. The game faithfully recreates the film’s plot and scenes, with stunning visuals, smooth gameplay, and top-tier music and animation. It is split into two phases: cub and adult. As a cub, Simba mainly defeats enemies by jumping and stomping, and can use a roar to stun foes. As an adult, he gains attacks like claw swipes, charges, and throws. The game has high difficulty, with some levels requiring precise player control to beat. In 2019, a HD remastered bundle including this game and Aladdin was released for PS4, Xbox One, and Switch, supporting 1080p resolution and adding features like fast forward and rewind.
