Harvest Moon (Japanese: Bokujō Monogatari) is a farm simulation game developed by Amccus and published by Pack-In-Video. It first launched in Japan on August 9, 1996 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). Players take on the role of a young boy who inherits and runs his grandfather’s neglected farm. Through activities like growing crops, raising livestock, fishing, and mining, players gradually build up the farm. The game also features interactions with villagers, festival events, and marriage and family elements, boosting its replay value and fun. As the first entry in the series, Harvest Moon laid the foundation for all subsequent titles and has had a lasting impact.
