Arabian Nights: Sabaku no Seirei-ō is a Super Famicom exclusive JRPG developed by Pandora Box and published by Takara in Japan on June 14, 1996. Set in an Arabian-themed world, it follows orphaned girl Shukran, who finds a magic ring sealing Ifrit, the Spirit King. Ifrit was once defeated by sorcerer Suleiman and bound as his servant; after a mysterious magical beast attack destroyed Suleiman’s home and weakened Ifrit, Suleiman sealed him in the ring, decreeing he would gain freedom once 1,000 people granted 1,000 wishes. A century later, Shukran becomes the 1,000th bearer and wishes for peace in her homeland. Since Ifrit cannot stray far from the ring, the pair journey together to find the crystals that seal Ifrit’s power to fulfill her wish. The game uses a classic turn-based battle system, with a unique "Barrier Cards" mechanic: both players and enemies can activate these cards at the start of each turn to affect both sides. Cards come in 9 attributes and 5 levels, with higher levels delivering stronger effects. Each card’s effect lasts 3 turns, and players can hold up to 16 cards. Boasting high freedom, the game lets players explore the world freely, collect crystals, shape the story, and unlock multiple endings. Its non-linear design and multiple endings boost replay value.
