Ganso Saiyuuki: Super Monkey Daibouken is an FC action-adventure game released by VAP in Japan on Nov 21, 1986. Adapted from the Chinese classic Journey to the West, players control Sun Wukong to escort Tang Sanzang on a pilgrimage for Buddhist scriptures.
Players must manage food and water that deplete during travel, and restock by entering houses. Towers hold horses and chances to recruit new party members.
It features a unique password system to jump to specific stages. However, high difficulty, clunky controls, and design flaws led to poor reception, making it one of the hardest and most confusing games in Japanese gaming history.
