ActRaiser is an action city-building game developed by Quintet and published by Enix (now Square Enix) for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1990. It blends side-scrolling action and city-building simulation. Players take the role of "The Master": in action stages, they control a warrior form to defeat monsters and purify the land; in the city-building phase, they guide humans as an angel to rebuild homes and grow civilization. The soundtrack, composed by renowned composer Yuzo Koshiro, is widely praised. The game was re-released on the Wii Virtual Console in 2007. In 2021, the remake ActRaiser Renaissance launched with upgraded graphics, music, and content, including new storylines, action stages, tougher bosses, and multi-platform support.
