Ultima VI: The False Prophet is a 1990 role-playing game released by Origin Systems. It is the sixth entry in the Ultima series and the final installment of the "Age of Enlightenment" trilogy. Initially launched for MS-DOS, it was later ported to Amiga, Atari ST, Commodore 64, FM Towns, PC-98, Super NES, X68000 and other platforms. In this game, players once again take on the role of the Avatar, who is summoned back to Britannia only to find the kingdom under invasion by the Gargoyle race from another realm. The Gargoyles have seized the Shrines of Virtue, seeking to prevent a prophesied catastrophe that would wipe out their entire race. Players must defend Britannia and uncover the secrets between the two worlds and their peoples. Ultima VI features notable technical advancements. Its game world uses a 1024x1024 seamless map; towns and dungeons are no longer separate areas but appear directly on the overworld, and battles take place from the same perspective. For graphics and audio, the game leverages VGA graphics cards and new sound card technology, while the user interface is simplified with clickable icons. The game's story deeply explores themes of prejudice and coexistence. As the plot unfolds, players learn the Gargoyles' invasion stems from their world being on the brink of destruction due to the loss of the Codex of Ultimate Wisdom, which the Avatar brought back to Britannia in the previous game. The player's mission shifts from repelling invaders to finding a way for both sides to coexist in peace. Ultima VI received widespread acclaim upon release and is regarded as one of the finest titles in the series. Its innovative game design and profound narrative have secured it a significant place in the history of role-playing games.
