Sutte Hakkun is an action-puzzle game co-developed by Nintendo R&D2 and Indieszero, released in 1997 via the Super Famicom Satellaview service. Players control Hakkun to collect scattered rainbow shards across levels and rebuild the broken Happiness Rainbow, with no time limits or enemies.
The gameplay blends platforming and puzzle elements: Hakkun can move left/right, jump, and absorb or place blocks. Players use these moves alongside level mechanisms and items to solve puzzles, with a unique color-based mechanic as its core feature.
Levels feature red, blue, and yellow bottles. Hakkun absorbs these colors and injects them into transparent blocks to make them move set directions: red for vertical, blue for horizontal, yellow for diagonal movement. Players use these traits to create paths and collect all rainbow shards.
Sutte Hakkun first launched on November 2, 1997, via Satellaview’s "Super Famicom Hour" data broadcast. Three updated versions with new puzzles released between 1998–1999. A 1998 Nintendo Power writable data version added more levels and improved tutorials, while a June 25, 1999, physical cartridge release matched the Nintendo Power version and included a detailed instruction manual.
Beloved by Japanese Satellaview users for its unique gameplay and challenging puzzles, Sutte Hakkun was initially Japan-exclusive. On January 24, 2025, it launched globally for the first time via Nintendo Switch Online, letting players worldwide experience this classic puzzle game.
