Hebereke's Popoon is a 1993 puzzle game developed and published by Sunsoft. It first launched in Japan on December 22, 1993 for the Super Famicom, then released in Europe for the SNES in 1994, with a Japanese arcade version also coming out in 1994. Gameplay is similar to Puyo Puyo: players arrange falling colored Popoon bubbles to match 3+ of the same color and clear them. Each clear sends special "head" obstacles to the opponent’s screen, which can only be removed by adjacent same-colored bubbles. The game offers single-player and two-player versus modes, with 8 playable characters each having unique abilities and special attacks. In single-player mode, players start with only the main character Hebereke and challenge other characters one by one; each defeated character becomes playable in the next match. Matches are single-round, with a continue option for losers. In two-player mode, all characters are available immediately, and matches are best-of-three. Players can also set difficulty from level 1 to 5 to adjust challenge. The game features a cute, colorful visual style and lively sound effects; characters make various onomatopoeia or Japanese phrases during clears and combos, adding to the fun. Overall, Hebereke's Popoon delivers a rich gameplay experience with its unique character designs and challenging mechanics.
