Sunset Riders is a classic arcade shooter launched in 1991 by Japanese developer KONAMI, later ported to the Super Nintendo (SNES) in 1993. Set in 19th-century America’s Wild West, it lets players pick one of four bounty hunters to chase wanted outlaws and live out cowboy legends.
Players choose from four unique characters, each with distinct weapons and abilities. Diverse levels feature battles on trains, in Native American tribes, and more, showcasing classic cowboy horseback and on-foot combat. The game mirrors Western film vibes with playful humor, like over-the-top cartoon animations when characters get burned or hit by objects.
The SNES version supports up to 2-player co-op. Players fight hordes of enemies across stages before taking on powerful end-level bosses. It has a balanced difficulty: beating it is no easy feat, but the challenging late-game boss fights deliver huge satisfaction.
With polished graphics, smooth controls, and rich content, Sunset Riders is a beloved classic for many gamers. Its one-of-a-kind Western theme and humorous tone set it apart from other shooters, and it’s still fondly discussed by players today.
