Star Fox is a rail shooter co-developed by Nintendo EAD and UK-based Argonaut Software, released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1993 as the first entry in the Star Fox series. It follows Fox McCloud and his Star Fox team defending Corneria from the evil scientist Andross. Powered by the advanced Super FX chip, it delivered rare 3D polygon graphics on home consoles, letting players pilot the Arwing fighter through multiple levels in intense dogfights and boss battles. A global hit with over 4 million copies sold, it cemented the series as one of Nintendo’s flagship franchises and a beloved classic. Set in the anthropomorphic-animal populated Lylat system, the story sees exiled Andross invade Corneria, prompting General Pepper to summon the Star Fox team to stop him and save the galaxy. Its success spawned sequels and deeply influenced later 3D shooters, making it a landmark in gaming history for its innovative mechanics and engaging story.
