RoadBlasters is an arcade racing shooter released by Atari Games in 1987. Players drive a high-performance sports car with artillery, speeding across 50 distinct rally tracks to reach the finish line before running out of fuel. Played from a third-person perspective, it requires steering, throttle, and weapon controls to dodge or destroy enemy vehicles and obstacles. Along the way, friendly helicopters drop limited-time special weapons like cruise missiles, nitro boosters, the U.Z. cannon, and electronic shields to help players tackle challenges. What makes it unique is its blend of racing and shooting elements: players must race against time while flexibly using weapons to eliminate enemies, boosting the game’s excitement. Initially launched on arcade platforms, it was later ported to multiple home systems including Amiga, Atari ST, Amstrad CPC, Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum, NES, Lynx, and Mega Drive. Versions on each platform differ in graphics and sound, but retain the same core gameplay.
