Sports Illustrated Championship Football & Baseball is a sports game compilation developed by Malibu Interactive and released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in February 1994. Officially licensed by the renowned sports magazine Sports Illustrated, it features both American football and baseball modes.
In American football mode, players can choose from 90 different athletes and play through a full 16-game regular season plus playoffs. The game offers various offensive and defensive tactics, with close-up camera shots during key moments to boost immersion.
For baseball mode, players select from 28 unlicensed teams to compete in a full season. It includes diverse offensive and defensive strategies, complete league standings, schedules, and pre-game team comparison analysis.
However, the game did not receive widespread acclaim upon release. Critics noted limited options and weak graphics that made it hard to follow the action. Additionally, its fictional teams and players lacked authenticity, harming the immersive experience.
Notably, its European release was renamed All-American Championship Football and only included the American football mode, with no baseball content.
Overall, Sports Illustrated Championship Football & Baseball aimed to deliver varied gameplay by combining two popular sports, but failed to gain broad player approval due to shortcomings in content and performance.
