Pac-Attack is a 1993 puzzle game by Japanese developer Namco, first launched for the SNES and Sega Genesis. It blends classic Pac-Man elements into falling-block gameplay for a fresh experience.
Players control falling clusters of blocks, ghosts, and Pac-Man, arranging them in the play area. Full horizontal rows of blocks clear, while ghosts are eliminated by placing Pac-Man, who moves forward eating all ghosts in his path until hitting a wall or obstacle.
A "fairy meter" fills as Pac-Man eats ghosts. When full, the next falling cluster includes a fairy that clears up to 8 rows of ghosts below it on landing, helping clean the board faster.
Alongside single-player, there’s a 2-player versus mode: clearing blocks and ghosts sends extra ghosts to the opponent’s board to raise difficulty. The first player whose stack reaches the top loses. There’s also a 100-level puzzle mode where players use limited pieces to clear all ghosts in as few moves as possible, with passwords to resume progress.
Since its release, Pac-Attack has been ported to Game Boy, Game Gear, CD-i, and more, and included in Namco collections like *Namco Anthology 2* and *Pac-Man Collection*. An iOS version launched in 2010 for mobile players.
Overall, its unique mechanics and creative use of classic IP make it a favorite among puzzle game fans and Pac-Man series followers.
