Outlander is a 1993 action game released by Mindscape for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). Its setting and style closely resemble the film Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior. Players drive across the wasteland, survive attacks from biker gangs, and avoid running out of fuel. Gameplay features two modes: driving and side-scrolling. In the driving section, players must destroy enemies like biker gang members, gyro-copter pilots, and red trucks. The vehicle has a front-mounted machine gun; if enemies approach from the sides, a pop-up window appears, allowing players to shoot them with a shotgun. There are several towns along the way where players must stop to refuel and restock ammo. The game then switches to a side-scrolling perspective, and players must exit the vehicle to fight enemies face-to-face. In towns, players can also find new equipment such as missile launchers and nitro boosters. The goal of the game is to drive across the wasteland, survive attacks from biker gang members, and avoid running out of gas.
