Nobunaga's Ambition: National Version is a 1986 historical simulation strategy game by Koei, the second entry in the series. Set in Japan’s Sengoku period, players take on the role of a daimyo aiming to unify 50 regions across the country through domestic governance, diplomacy, and military action.
In the game, players manage their domain’s economy, develop agriculture and commerce, and advance cultural and technological levels. Diplomatic negotiations with other daimyos allow for alliances or declarations of war. Battles are turn-based, requiring players to strategically deploy troops, leverage terrain, and use tactics to secure victory.
Originally released for the PC-88SR platform, Nobunaga's Ambition: National Version was later ported to multiple systems, including the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), Sega Mega Drive, PC Engine CD-ROM, PlayStation, mobile devices, Windows, and iOS.
The game’s soundtrack was composed by Yoko Kanno, creating a rich historical atmosphere for players.
As the second installment in the series, Nobunaga's Ambition: National Version built on its predecessor by adding a national 50-region mode, improving graphics and gameplay, and laying the foundation for future entries.
