NFL Football is an American football simulation game developed by Atlus and published by LJN for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in 1989. Officially licensed by the National Football League (NFL), it is the first NFL-licensed American football video game since NFL Football for Intellivision in 1979. The game recreates the 1988-1989 NFL season with all teams and play formations from that era, though no real player names are included due to lack of NFL Players Association (NFLPA) licensing. Players can compete in cross-conference matchups, AFC or NFC games, or jump straight into Super Bowl XXIII. Featuring a top-down perspective, it lets players control the entire team with a wide range of play options. It also supports two-player head-to-head play and includes handicap settings to balance difficulty for less skilled players.
