Ninja Hattori: Ninja Training Scroll is an FC platform action game released by Hudson Soft in Japan on March 5, 1986, adapted from the manga and anime series of the same name created by Fujiko Fujio A. In the game, players take on the role of young ninja Hattori Hanzo (Hattori). While searching for his master to complete his training, he meets 10-year-old boy Kenichi Mitsuba and decides to temporarily make him his master to help him build confidence. The two go on many adventures together. The game uses a side-scrolling format. Players need to control Hattori to traverse various complex terrains, mainly forests. In addition to attacking enemies with shurikens, Hattori can also learn and use up to 12 different ninjutsu, such as flying squirrel technique and rage fireball technique, to cope with increasing challenges. Since the game controls are relatively sluggish, players need to skillfully use ninjutsu to overcome obstacles. The game became the fifth best-selling FC game in Japan in 1986, with cumulative sales of approximately 1.5 million copies.
