Metal Marines is a 1993 real-time strategy game developed by Namco for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). Set in 2117, two years after the Antimatter War, Earth lies in ruins. Players command a military force whose core units are 16-meter-tall, 93-ton mechs called Metal Marines.
The main goal is to recapture Earth territory from enemies across 20 missions and defeat them entirely. Players build bases on islands, deploy defenses like anti-missile batteries, mines, and machine gun bunkers to protect their base. They also construct offensive units such as missile launchers and Metal Marines to attack enemy bases. Each mission requires new tactics and strategies to win.
The game uses an isometric view for base building and battle planning. Players can monitor enemy positions in real time and win by finding and destroying the enemy headquarters. Resource management is key: players must allocate funds and energy wisely to build and upgrade facilities and boost their strength.
With its unique RTS gameplay and rich tactical options, Metal Marines is a beloved classic on the SNES platform.
