Majin Tensei is a tactical role-playing game (SRPG) developed and published by Atlus for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) on January 28, 1994. A spin-off of the Shin Megami Tensei series, it is renowned for its unique battle system and deep narrative. Set in modern Japanese cities, the game follows a teenage protagonist who becomes entangled in battles against demons after receiving a mysterious demon summoning program. Strategic combat uses a top-down perspective, switching to first-person view during actual fights, similar to other Shin Megami Tensei titles. Players can recruit demons to fight alongside them, but each summoning consumes large amounts of magnetite, requiring careful battle planning. The game also features a demon fusion system that lets players combine demons into more powerful beings. Its epic story spans multiple eras including 1995, 2024, and 2052, centered on the invention of the demon summoning program and connecting three worlds: the human world, Eden, and Hell. Players travel across different time periods to experience a sweeping storyline. Though it underperformed commercially due to competing tactical RPGs released the same year like Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together and Super Robot Wars 4, its unique mechanics and profound story left a lasting impression on players.
