Incantation is a 1996 SNES action-platformer published by Titus France. Players take on the role of a young wizard on a quest to save the Magic Kingdom.
Set in the peaceful Magic Kingdom made up of seven worlds including enchanted forests, mountains, swamps, cursed cliffs, and the evil wizard Necroman’s palace, the realm was long guarded by powerful wizards who inherited ancestral power as keepers of a mystical spellbook holding absolute authority. When the wicked Necroman steals the spellbook and kidnaps the guardians, the kingdom falls into chaos, overrun by demons and monsters.
In the game, players control the young wizard across multiple levels, using various ranged spells with different ranges and power levels found throughout stages to defeat enemies. Some levels require collecting a set number of items to progress, while others feature tough boss battles.
Incantation boasts vibrant visuals and detailed backgrounds that showcase the distinct artistic style of European games. However, its repetitive level design and limited enemy variety make the overall experience feel somewhat monotonous. Still, retro platformer fans can find enjoyment in this title.
