Fatal Fury: King of Fighters is a classic fighting game launched by SNK in 1991. It first debuted on arcade platforms and was later ported to home consoles like the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). Set in the fictional South Town, the game follows brothers Terry Bogard and Andy Bogard as they seek revenge for their father’s death by challenging Geese Howard, the ruler of South Town.
The game features a unique "two-line system" that allows characters to switch between two front and back battle lines, adding strategic depth to combat. Players can choose one of three protagonists—Terry, Andy, or Joe Higashi—and fight through a series of opponents to ultimately challenge Geese Howard.
As SNK’s first fighting game, Fatal Fury held an important position in the fighting game genre at the time. Its unique mechanics and rich storyline laid the foundation for future fighting game development. Although it had some gaps compared to the contemporary Street Fighter II, Fatal Fury won the love of many players with its unique charm.
