Hatris is a puzzle game co-developed by Tetris creator Alexey Pajitnov and Vladimir Pokhilko. Released in 1990 by Bullet-Proof Software, it first launched on arcades, then was ported to NES, Game Boy, TurboGrafx-16 and other platforms. In Hatris, players arrange pairs of hats of different styles that fall from the top of the screen. The goal is to vertically stack five identical hats to clear them and earn points. Different hat styles take up different amounts of space when stacked, which adds to the game's challenge. Inspired by Tetris, Hatris replaces blocks with hats and introduces new gameplay elements. Players stack hats on six heads, and five matching hats stacked together are eliminated. As the game progresses, hats fall faster, increasing the difficulty. Hatris received some attention upon release but did not achieve the same level of success as Tetris. Still, as another notable work by Pajitnov, it holds a unique place among puzzle game fans.
