Famicom Bunko: Hajimari no Mori is a text adventure game developed by Pax Softnica and published by Nintendo. It launched exclusively in Japan on July 1, 1999, for the Super Famicom via the Nintendo Power service.
The story follows an unnamed elementary school boy who visits his grandfather in the countryside during summer vacation. In a forest near his grandfather’s home, he meets and befriends a mysterious girl. Players explore the mystical forest, go on adventures, and interact with village characters as the plot unfolds.
Gameplay uses a text adventure format similar to *Shin Onigashima*, with players selecting menu commands to advance the story. Various text-based minigames add fun and interactivity.
Notably, the game was initially only available as a Nintendo Power download with no physical cartridge release, leading to low sales at the time. It was later re-released on the Wii Virtual Console in Japan on July 17, 2007, and the Wii U Virtual Console on August 21, 2013, letting new players experience this classic title.
With its detailed pixel art and engaging story, Famicom Bunko: Hajimari no Mori vividly captures the peaceful atmosphere of rural Japan, leaving a lasting impression on players.
