ESPN Baseball Tonight is a 1994 baseball game published by Sony Imagesoft, available on MS-DOS, Sega CD, Sega Genesis, and Super Nintendo Entertainment System. It holds official MLB licensing, featuring all 28 MLB teams and their ballparks from the era, but does not use real player names due to lack of MLBPA approval. The game offers multiple modes including exhibition, full season, playoffs, practice, and home run derby. Players can pick teams, set batting lineups, and select starting and relief pitchers. Pitching and batting are shown from the home plate umpire’s view, with the camera following the ball during fielding and base running instead of using a traditional top-down perspective. Little Caesars partnered on the game’s promotion, tapping into the overlap between baseball and pizza fans with a large-scale campaign: in-store materials at 4,500 locations, a mail-in offer for an ESPN "Best of Sports" VHS tape, and print ads. Little Caesars ads also appear on the outfield walls in-game. The PC version was one of the early CD-ROM-only releases. Alongside exhibition, season, and playoff modes, it includes a home run derby mode where players are scored based on the number of home runs they hit. As the first entry in the ESPN-themed sports game series, ESPN Baseball Tonight laid the groundwork for later titles like ESPN Sunday Night NFL.
