Breath of Fire II is a classic role-playing game developed and published by Capcom for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System on December 2, 1994, as the second entry in the Breath of Fire series. Set 500 years after the original game, it follows a young hero named Ryu, who embarks on an adventure with winged girl Nina and other companions to uncover hidden truths. Building on the first game’s strengths, each character has unique skills for dungeon exploration and combat. Players must use these abilities strategically to solve puzzles and advance the story. It also introduces an apprentice system, letting characters learn new skills from masters to boost their power. Combat uses a turn-based system, where players command party members to attack, defend, or cast magic. With balanced difficulty and dungeons that require specific characters to pass, it offers solid strategy and challenge. Released in Japan the same week as the Sony PlayStation launch, Breath of Fire II still sold well, moving around 89,700 copies in its first week. It was later ported to the Game Boy Advance and re-released on Wii Virtual Console, Wii U Virtual Console, and Nintendo Switch Online. Overall, Breath of Fire II is a beloved RPG classic, praised for its rich story, distinct characters, and varied gameplay systems, making it well worth playing.
