D-Force is a 1991 vertical-scrolling shooter developed by Cream and published by Asmik for the Super NES. Players pilot an Apache helicopter to take down an evil Middle Eastern dictator across 7 levels set in 6 countries. Some levels use the Super NES Mode 7 feature, letting players switch altitudes to attack enemies at different heights. It offers 3 modes: Game Start (all 7 levels), Shooting Mode (focused on shooting and dodging fire), and Exploration Mode (emphasizes altitude switching in fantasy environments to attack enemies and avoid obstacles). Players can collect weapon and missile upgrades by downing large red attack helicopters. Each level has mid-bosses and final bosses that must be defeated to advance. The soundtrack is also notable: the menu music is adapted from the French national anthem "La Marseillaise", while the ending theme is adapted from the Soviet national anthem.
