The Wizard of Oz is a 1993 SNES action-adventure game developed by Manley & Associates and published by SETA Corporation. Based on the 1939 film of the same name, it lets players control Dorothy on a quest through the Land of Oz to defeat the Wicked Witch of the West, reclaim the Ruby Slippers, and help her return to Kansas. Featuring 4 worlds with 31 levels, hidden areas, mazes, and puzzles, the game also unlocks playable characters like the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion, each with unique attacks and abilities. Boasting vibrant visuals and detailed backgrounds, it suffers from stiff character animations and high difficulty, with various minigames and puzzles testing players’ skills. While it earned some praise for its challenge and replay value at launch, later reviews were mixed, criticizing its poor collision detection, clunky controls, and loose adaptation of the source material.
