Crackout is Konami's creative take on the classic 'block-breaking' genre for the NES. Players must destroy all bricks on the screen using a ball and paddle, but with a unique twist: the levels are populated by enemies that drop power-ups when hit. These include parachutes to slow the ball, multi-ball modes, and even weapon projectiles. The game is divided into four distinct zones, each culminating in a challenging boss fight against creatures like dragons or centipedes. With hidden secrets, level warps, and a password system, Crackout provides a much deeper and more interactive experience than your standard Arkanoid clone.
