Top Gear 2 (released as Top Racer 2 in Japan) is a racing game developed by Gremlin Interactive. It first launched on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in 1993, and was later ported to Sega Mega Drive, Amiga and other platforms. As the second entry in the Top Gear series, it brings many improvements over the original game. The game features 64 tracks across 16 countries, with 4 races per country. Players start on tracks in Australia and New Zealand, and finish the whole competition in the US. After completing races in one country, players get a password to save their progress for later. In terms of gameplay, it adds a vehicle damage system. The left side of the screen shows damage status, so players must watch their car’s durability. It also has a weather system with fog, heavy rain and snow. Players need to pick suitable tires for different weather to keep the best driving performance. Players can win prize money from races to upgrade car parts, including engine, gearbox, nitro booster, tires and armor. Upgrading the engine boosts acceleration and top speed; upgrading the gearbox improves fuel efficiency and acceleration; upgrading tires enhances grip and steering performance. It supports single-player and multiplayer modes. Players can choose automatic or manual transmission, and customize control settings in the start menu. Each race gives players 6 nitro boosts. Using them wisely helps overtake opponents at key moments and take the lead. With its rich track design, varied weather system and car upgrade mechanics, Top Gear 2 delivers a deep racing experience. Its smooth controls and detailed graphics made it one of the most popular racing games of its time.
