Lunar Pool (originally released in Japan as Lunar Ball) is a billiards simulation game developed by Compile. It first launched in Japan in June 1985 for the Nintendo Entertainment System (Famicom), blending classic pool and mini-golf elements for a unique gameplay experience.
In the game, players use a cue ball to pocket colored balls. Each level features a uniquely shaped table, boosting the challenge. With 60 total levels, players can pick their preferred stages to tackle. They can also adjust table friction to alter ball rolling speed, enhancing replay value.
Lunar Pool supports single-player, two-player versus, and player-vs-AI modes. In versus modes, players take turns shooting. If a player fails to pocket a colored ball or pockets the cue ball, their turn ends. Three consecutive failed shots or cue ball pockets cost the player one life.
Released as Lunar Ball in Japan and Lunar Pool in North America, this title has become a beloved classic from many players’ childhoods, thanks to its one-of-a-kind mechanics and varied level design.
