Tetris 2 (Japanese: Tetris Flash) is a puzzle game developed and published by Nintendo. It launched for Game Boy and NES in 1993, and came to SNES in 1994.
It innovates on classic Tetris gameplay. Tetrominoes fall from the top of the screen, and players arrange them to fill horizontal lines. Unlike traditional Tetris, players match blocks by color: three or more connected same-colored blocks disappear, similar to Dr. Mario. Some block pieces only connect at corners instead of full edges.
It features single-player and multiplayer modes, letting friends battle each other for extra fun and challenge.
Tetris 2 sold well across regions. In January 1994, it was the top-selling NES and Game Boy game in the U.S., and held the Game Boy sales crown in February. In the UK, it was the best-selling NES game in March 1994 and for eight straight months from May to November.
Media reviews were mixed. Electronic Gaming Monthly gave the SNES version an 8/10, saying "if you’re a fan of the first game, this one will satisfy you," praising its backgrounds and two-player mode. The NES version received lukewarm reviews.
