Pinball Quest is an NES game developed by Tose and published by Jaleco in 1989. As the first RPG-style pinball game, it uniquely blends pinball and RPG elements with 4 modes: story-driven RPG mode, plus Circus, Viva! Golf and Pop! Pop! for solo or multiplayer. In RPG mode, players control a silver pinball to traverse a 6-floor castle, rescuing Princess Bali imprisoned by the Dark Lord Beezelbub. Players progress by hitting targets and defeating enemies, and can buy upgrades like stronger flippers and bumpers on the black market. Its innovative gameplay drew much attention back then; while some critics found its mixed style confusing, its unique experience is still worth trying.
