Street Fighter II Turbo is a fighting game released by Capcom in December 1992. It first launched on arcade platforms and was later ported to multiple home consoles, including the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). This version builds on its predecessor, Street Fighter II' Champion Edition, with various improvements to boost gameplay smoothness and player experience. In Turbo, game speed is significantly increased, while character attack power is reduced to ensure competitive balance. Additionally, the game features multiple tweaks to the moves and special attacks of all 12 characters, further improving balance between fighters. Notably, except for M. Bison, all computer-controlled characters default to Player 2 color schemes, a change from the previous title. The release was partly a response to numerous pirated modified versions of Street Fighter II on the market at the time, such as the "Dragon" edition. These pirated versions introduced features like free character switching and aerial special moves, which were popular with players but undermined the original game's balance and fairness. Capcom thus released Turbo as an official improved version to preserve game quality and player experience. Overall, Street Fighter II Turbo retains the classic elements of the original while delivering a more intense and exciting fighting experience through faster gameplay, adjusted character skills, and enhanced balance.
