Street Fighter II - The World Warrior is a fighting game released by Japan's Capcom on February 6, 1991. It features Ryu and Ken from the previous game as protagonists, with Vega as the main villain. Characters come from different countries, each with unique special moves, plus a complete defense and offense system. Players can choose from 8 characters of different nationalities to fight one-on-one against opponents worldwide. After defeating all characters, players challenge the Four Bosses one by one, with Vega as the final boss. Notably, except for Sagat, the other three bosses have different names in Japanese and overseas versions. For example, boxer Mike Bison was renamed Balrog in overseas versions because his name sounded similar to famous boxer Tyson, to avoid portrait rights infringement. Street Fighter II is widely regarded as a pioneer of fighting games and is often ranked among the greatest video games of all time. It focuses on playability and controls rather than flashy graphics and animations. Its control system, in particular, has been imitated by many later fighting games, including other Capcom fighting titles. First released on arcade platforms, it was later ported to multiple home consoles and handhelds, such as the SNES and Sega Saturn. The SFC version launched on June 10, 1992, sold 2.88 million copies in Japan and over 6.3 million worldwide, making it one of Capcom's most successful home console games. The success of Street Fighter II sparked a fighting game boom, influencing the development and design of many subsequent fighting games. Its rich, rigorous system, excellent controls, distinct character traits, and beautiful graphics and music make it a milestone in fighting games.
