Star Fox 2 is a shooter game developed and published by Nintendo, originally planned as the second entry in the Star Fox series. Completed in 1995, its release was canceled due to rapid 3D tech advancements and growing market competition. It features an advanced 3D engine and the GSU-2 co-processor for improved graphics, with innovative gameplay including free team selection and open star map navigation that switches to 3D combat on enemy encounters. Though unreleased in 1995, its design ideas influenced later Star Fox titles. Early ROMs leaked over 20 years with bugs and unfinished code, before the game finally launched officially on the Super NES Classic Edition in September 2017.
