Prince of Persia 2: The Shadow and the Flame is a 1993 platform game developed by Brøderbund, the second entry in the Prince of Persia series. First released for MS-DOS, it was later ported to Mac OS, SNES, and other platforms. Building on the first game’s gameplay, players control the Prince to run, jump, crawl, avoid traps, solve puzzles, and fight enemies. Compared to its predecessor, combat is harder: enemies attack in groups, and reinforcements arrive quickly after foes are defeated. The graphics are also significantly improved with richer colors and more varied backgrounds. Set 11 days after the first game, the Prince is hailed as a hero for defeating the evil vizier Jaffar and marries the Princess. But Jaffar uses magic to disguise himself as the Prince, seizes the throne, and curses the Princess to death. The Prince flees and embarks on a quest to uncover the truth and save the Princess. A commercial success, the game is widely considered superior to the original in every way. In June 1994, Computer Gaming World named it "Action Game of the Year." Notably, a high-definition remake launched on iOS and Android in 2013, offering both gesture and virtual gamepad controls to let players experience this classic title.
