Game Introduction
Metal Slug 7 is the legendary run-and-gun series' debut on the Nintendo DS, developed by SNK. Featuring the return of Marco, Tarma, Eri, Fio, Ralf, and Clark, the team must infiltrate 'Scrap Island' to stop Morden's rebel army. The game maintains the series' high-quality pixel art and frantic action across seven intense stages. A major addition is the 'Combat School' mode, offering over 200 missions to test your skills and earn ranks. The DS dual-screen setup is utilized for a real-time map on the bottom screen, ensuring you never miss a secret item or hostage. This Simplified Chinese version brings the classic arcade thrills to a handheld format with full text localization.
Gameplay
Game Overview
General Morden's rebellion is far from over - he has been spotted on Scrap Island, and this time an army arriving from the future is backing him up. Published by SNK Playmore and developed by Noise Factory, Metal Slug 7 launched in Japan on July 17, 2008 and reached North America that November, originally as a Nintendo DS exclusive.
Core Gameplay
Seven stages of side-scrolling run-and-gun: swap between the pistol, heavy machine gun, rocket launcher and laser as pickups allow, free prisoners for item rewards, and climb into everything from the classic tank to a fighter jet and a bipedal walker. Close-range knife work is available to everyone, directional inputs plus the attack button produce a different melee move per character, and Marco, Tarma, Ralf and Clark each carry a special attack. Three difficulty levels - Beginner, Normal and Hard - are on offer, with the action on the top screen and a live map below.
About This Chinese Version
This Simplified Chinese edition (by the ACG translation group) is built on the Japanese release. Title menus, Combat School briefings, weapon and item names and story captions are all localized, so scoring conditions - kill counts, prisoners rescued, restricted weapons - are readable instead of guesswork. Only text was replaced: stage layouts, enemy placement, damage values and the full set of 80 Combat School missions are untouched. The bottom screen map marks prisoners and pickups so you can plan a route before you move.
Game Tips
- Seven main stages and six playable soldiers: Marco, Tarma, Eri, Fio, Ralf and Clark
- Combat School: 80 training missions handed out by instructor Cynthia, scored on kills, prisoners rescued and weapon restrictions
- A rank ladder driven by mission points, climbing from Recruit all the way to General of the Army
- Live bottom-screen map tracks prisoners and pickups while the fighting plays out on top
- New Slug vehicles plus enemies fielded by the army from the future, with the usual oversized mechanical bosses
- Three difficulty settings: Beginner, Normal and Hard
- Simplified Chinese edition with menus, briefings, weapon names and captions translated; gameplay and balance unchanged
Frequently Asked Questions
The seven-stage campaign is short - an arcade-style run takes about an hour to an hour and a half. The bulk of the content is the 80 Combat School missions, and chasing high scores and ranks runs past ten hours.
Yes, in grenade capacity, vehicle machine gun ammo, melee damage and how fast they mount vehicles: Ralf and Clark hit harder up close and board faster, Fio carries more heavy weapon ammo, and Eri's grenade throws are easier to place.
There are three settings. Beginner is for learning the stages, while Hard tightens both bullet density and the windows for rescuing prisoners - that is the arcade veteran's tier.
No. XX is the 2009 PSP revision that added co-op play and extra characters, while 7 is a single-player DS exclusive built around a seven-mission campaign plus Combat School.
It is single-player with no link features, so everything works. Turn on a side-by-side dual screen layout so the bottom map with prisoners and pickups stays visible.
