The Legend of Zelda is an action-adventure game launched by Nintendo in 1986. It first released on Japan's Famicom Disk System, then launched on the NES in North America and Europe in 1987. Designed by Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka, players take on the role of young hero Link, whose mission is to collect the eight fragments of the Triforce of Wisdom and rescue Princess Zelda from the evil Ganon. Featuring a top-down perspective, players explore the vast world of Hyrule, solve puzzles, and battle enemies. Its open-world design, rich item system, and nonlinear gameplay were groundbreaking at the time, influencing the development of many subsequent action-adventure games.
