Yaiba: Legend of the Swordmaster is an action RPG released by Banpresto on March 25, 1994, for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). Adapted from Gosho Aoyama’s manga of the same name, it follows Yaiba Kurogane’s quest to become Japan’s top samurai.
Players control Yaiba as he faces Onimaru, who is controlled by the Wind God Sword and possessed by demons. To defeat him, Yaiba sets out on a training journey with the Thunder God Sword, collecting sacred orbs across Japan to obtain the legendary Dragon God Orb. The game blends Japanese folklore with a modern Japanese setting for a lighthearted adventure.
As an action RPG, players battle and exploration let players power up Yaiba, solve puzzles, and help him achieve his dream of becoming Japan’s greatest samurai.
