Fishing Adventure (Japanese: Kawa no Nushi Tsuri) is a role-playing fishing game developed by Yuu Yuu and published by Pack-In-Video. It launched on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in Japan on August 10, 1990, as the first entry in the River Fishing Legend series. It uniquely blends traditional Japanese RPG (JRPG) elements with fishing simulation.
In the game, players take on the role of a young fishing enthusiast on a journey to find the legendary "River Master" fish. The game world consists of multiple areas, including towns, forests, and rivers, which players can explore freely. Besides fishing, players also engage in turn-based battles with wild animals, upgrade their character’s abilities, and collect various fishing gear and items.
The fishing system is the core gameplay. Players need to choose suitable fishing rods, hooks, and bait to try catching various fish in different waters. Each fish reacts differently to various baits and fishing methods, adding strategy and challenge to the game. After successfully catching a fish, players can sell it for money or use it to complete specific quests.
The game’s graphics and sound effects were outstanding for the NES platform at the time, creating a peaceful natural atmosphere. Although Fishing Adventure was initially released only in Japan, its innovative gameplay and unique theme earned it a good reputation among players and laid the foundation for the River Fishing Legend series.
